All you have to do is stay in bed and pass time while the researchers perform some tests on you. All you need is to be able to clear Air Force Medical Examination and be a non-smoker. If you can do that you’re on for this rest-to-earn policy of NASA.

During the first fifteen (15) days, you will be allowed freely wander in an especially designed bed rest and carry out normal activities.

You will partake in various tests to find out the normal state of your bone, muscle, heart and circulatory system, brain and nervous system, and vestibular (inner ear balance) system as well as your nutritional condition and your ability to fight off infections.

After these 15 days, you get to spend entire 60 days in bed while the tests will continue. And the last 14 days will serve as a recovery period where you will begin the process regaining muscle strength and readjusting to a normal life.

Also, you are required to stay awake for 16 hours in a day with 8 hours fixed for sleeping when the lights will go off. In the 16 hours that you are awake, you can watch television, play games, read anything you would like, learn a foreign language, meet visitors for a fixed interval of time etc.

Thousand Year Old World’s Largest Cashew Tree- Maior Cajueiro do Mundo.

In 1994, the Guinness Book of Records set aside a separate column for the world’s largest cashew tree called Maior Cajueiro do Mondo located in Natal, Brazil. The gigantic tree has grown from an amalgamation of two genetic tissues. Such tissues allow the branches of the tree to grow outwards rather than upwards. Gradually, hence, the branches tend to stoop towards the ground and eventually make for a root. This new root further grows into a new tree.

The massive tree occupies 80,000 square feet of land or roughly five acres. It is guessed to be around thousand years old. One can easily climb a tower to view this tree from a vantage point or for that matter, even climb up through the roots.

You can heartily go and pay a visit to this enormous work of nature. However, beware of the orange caterpillars. These gorgeous looking insects are poisonous. They swamp over the tree seasonally and are a size of a finger.

The beauty of this tree is that it produces 60,000 pieces of cashew fruit each year. As for some people it may come as a surprise that a cashew nut is not the fruit but a single nut is attached only to the bottom of the fruit!

Man Feed His Dog Using Twitter.

We all know "Necessity is the mother of invention", well it is proved by 30 years old IT consultant name Nat Morris, who spends a lot of time working away from home and isn’t always able to feed four-year-old Toby by hand, in a result he has rigged up an extraordinary way to feed his border terrier Toby a ‘tweet treat’ by sending him a Twitter message to @FeedToby.

Nat has set up electronic system, when ever Nat sends a message to ‘@FeedToby’ , Toby get snakes through automatic food dispenser, using this he can feed his dog from anywhere in the world, isn't it awesome ?

When a message is sent to @feedtoby it is received by a mini-computer known as a Nanode microcontroller. This is linked up to little motor taken from a household printer HP Deskjet 500.When the mini-computer receives the message, the buzzer goes off and Toby comes running over and sits beneath a tube under his feeder contraption.Then the motor comes to life and pulls open a trap door which releases a serving of food.The doggy treat then comes dropping down the tube and into Toby's food bowl.Then a digital camera then takes a photo of him and sends it back to Nat on Twitter - so he knows Toby has been fed.

Britain's $1m Bionic Man With Working Heart.

When Alex J Murphy (Robocop) defied death and came back as a killing machine, possibility of such advancements in science escaped an ordinary man’s imagination.

Rex has been developed by a team of scientists called The Shadow team which is managed and directed by Mr. Rich Walker. Watching an interview with Rex one can almost see him beaming with emotions and humanity while never concealing his true identity. He/It leaves people mesmerized with the swishing of moving mechanical body parts coupled with the near human smile. Rex explores a plethora of opportunities in the field of biomechanics, human nature, life and death. Rex is a prime example of innovation in the field of mechanics. It is the paramount invention of humans just about resembling almost a complete bionic human form.

Rex’s body consists of a face (yes you read it right), prosthetic knees hands and hip. All these body parts are available to the general public. Rex will soon be unveiled to the general public at the Science Museum in London. Some of the internal organs such as pancreas, set of artificial lungs and bladder, are being developed at this moment of time. These are the parts that can operate without human input. While organs such as brain, hands etc. cannot work without two way interactions within human bodies. Some of the technology cannot work without human input; bionic hands, for example, need muscles and signals from the brain to function. Other parts, such as the heart and pancreas, are designed to work on their own.

 “There are some vital organs missing, like the stomach, but 60 to 70 percent of a human has effectively been rebuilt.”- Mr. Walker

Team Shadow also consisted of Mr. Bertholt Meyer to give a provide psycho-analysis to the project. Mr. Meyer himself was born without his left hand and holds prosthesis. “I have looked for new bionic technologies out of personal interest for a long time and I think that until five or six years ago nothing much was happening”. Mr. Meyer. He also raises ethical issues highlighting the fact that humans can take undue advantage of technology. “Should I be allowed to cut off my real hand and replace it with something, does that gives me an unfair advantage over people who cannot afford this? I’m not saying that is going to happen but these are questions that should be on the table before that technology becomes available.”

 Rex is a first step taken towards developing artificial sensory equipment which can work similarly to that of a human body. Rex is equipped with prosthetic parts identical to human body although not with such advanced capabilities as a human body is.

Although creation of a completely identical set of organs such as Brain is a fanciful idea at this time, with developments such as Rex, you can never know when human race will be sharing space with fully developed bionic humans.

Taisia Sidorova, Develops Artistic Talent After Losing Half Of Brain.

There is something called God’s gift. Some people are blessed with an inherent ability to learn things more quickly than others; some are showered upon the gift of intelligence while some excel in sports or other activities. We normally call such people “gifted”.

Such people are in a different league than normal people. However, there is one girl who is not gifted but still gifted. Taisia Sidorova from St. Petersburg suffered a horrific car crash. That accident not only broke her skull into fragments and chunks but the doctors gave up saying there wasn't much chance of survival. Twenty one (21) year old girl stayed in coma for while after the doctors removed the left hemisphere of her brain. That part of the brain is apparently responsible for logic and analysis. The doctors had to place a protective plate inside her head after removing the analytical half.

 

While the medical practitioners believed that the Taisia would be disabled for her entire life, her mother Irina believed in the opposite. The strong willed Taisia finally woke up on New Year’s Eve and out emerged a completely new facet of her life.

She returned home and demanded complete recovery. Two (2) years after that she learnt to hold a pencil and then a brush. She started sketching for therapy and was rated as the topper of her class. Taisia started living a new life. She had not been interested in painting or sketching before the car crash, however, some incidents do have the power to change lives.

The doctors admit that the brain is human body’s exceptionally remarkable part. The part of her brain that was intact grew to compensate for the missing one. This was the logic behind Taisia’s artistic ability. Due to the missing part, Taisia’s vision is limited and so is her right hand’s movement. As a result, she paints with her left hand.  Hats off to the spirit of Taisia Sidorova!
